Painting portraits is a way of navigating the unknown, finding a language to describe the stories & character of a person through their image.The actual practice of painting is guided by an instinctual sense of direction. My portraits & nudes allude to what I might become, & what I have been. It is not important that I produce a likeness of the sitter, what matters is that I somehow imbue the painting with a narrative & a feeling so that it may in some way say something that I cannot - something outside of the world of words.
