Brett Weir - Home

After seven years of living abroad in Zurich, I am planning a return to Australia.
This most recent body of work continues the celebration of light, space and relationships that make Australia so important to me.
However, faced with the imminent prospect of coming back to a radically changed home, this imagery is beset by a sense of uncertainty.

Does the place that I left with such warm associations seven years ago still resemble that country today?

Are my old friends, (the unruly mob depicted in the New Years Eve cricket paintings or the ghosts on the landscape of my festival works) still the same?

Just how radically has my filter changed?

From this inquiry stems the ultimate question, one perhaps faced by many of us in different contexts: Where do I belong?
